By Pete Silvestor, Consultant
In an age when problems are big and getting bigger, social enterprises that can’t scale are increasingly irrelevant. As a startup coach and founder, Pete Silvester has seen many entrepreneurs fail at reaching scale, and has learnt that the first step to scaling is to adjust one’s mindset – from a product obsession to a sales obsession, from ideating to executing, from designing to operating, from social idealisms to financial realities, from working alone to building a team, etc. So in this 2 hour workshop, Pete leaned heavily on the analogy of flight in an attempt to debunk the concept of social enterprise, demystified the processes of growth, and offered some simple ideas and tools to help (would be) entrepreneurs to think and perform at scale. A small scale social enterprise, startup, NGO, or even social movement, or just had an interest in building one, Pete’s unique perspectives fitted just what you need.
Pete Silvester is a social scientist, entrepreneur, and traveler. He has built 3 businesses, including the first startup incubator in Myanmar, has consulted for clients around the world. He has recently relocated to Bangkok and joined Thammasat University’s School of Global Studies to build a social venture accelerator.
