The sustainability transition is accelerating around the globe. Governments and large companies have set net-zero targets, driving sustainability-oriented innovations not only within companies, but throughout supply chains and industries. Companies will have to adopt, either to comply with requirements from regulators and customers, or because of the enormous new growth opportunity that a future of sustainable production and consumption presents. In our ‘Learning from leaders’ series of interviews, we speak to some of the most pioneering leaders around the world, to learn how they are preparing their organisations to capture the opportunities the sustainability transition brings.
dtac: Digital Inclusion as a driver of societal impact and business growth
Insights from a recent interview with Sharad Mehrotra, CEO of dtac. dtac is one of the leading telecoms providers in Thailand, part of the larger Telenor Group, with 16,000 employees and 172 million subscribers in 8 markets and revenues of over €10 billion, one of the largest telecoms groups in the world. We spoke to dtac CEO Sharad Mehrotra about how he is integrating sustainability in the mindset and operations of dtac and how the company drives digital disruption, adoption, inclusion and acceleration in a purposeful way. In this interview Sharad explains how sustainability is not only for risk mitigation but also for value creation for the current business and through capturing new opportunities. He sheds light on how having a Norwegian, sustainability-oriented mother company helped dtac embed sustainability in its own operations and culture, and create local impact more rapidly in the areas of digital inclusion and human rights. He also gives valuable insights on how dtac uses its ‘Tight-Loose-Tight’ approach to empower employees to work autonomously, while still delivering as a team in agile ways and how this has helped dtac become more resilient through the recent pandemic.
