At age 22, Casper Sermsuksan met investor Warren Buffet, who told him, “If you follow your passion, you aren’t taking a risk.” This ignited a spark in Casper and motivated him to consistently work towards his dreams.
Now at 30, Casper is a student in Sasin’s Executive MBA program and the class president. He is also an innovation coach, a teacher, a policy maker, and the CEO and co-founder of the food delivery platform, Kulina, in Indonesia. He has recently launched his book, “The Startup Mindset,” sharing 29 valuable entrepreneurial insights from his myriad experiences, including working as a Financial Analyst at Amazon and as an eFounders Fellow at Alibaba.
Casper has also found his calling as an innovation coach, which led him to become the founder of SEA Bridge in 2018 to help innovators build regional and global companies. Recently, Casper conducted training sessions for 60 students at universities across Thailand. The focus was on equipping them with the knowledge and skills for internationalization strategies for businesses and to help them explore opportunities in global markets.
“When I discovered Sasin, it was like reading a friend’s profile. Sasin is a Thai business school that promotes an entrepreneurial mindset and is committed to being the leader in the Asia-Pacific region. So those are the things that I want to accomplish in life. And I think Sasin is where I come to find a friend and hopefully a life partner in this journey.” Casper Sermsuksan, Sasin EMBA 2023
“I teach and coach other people how to innovate in their careers. Even policymakers and government officials can innovate how they make policies. The same with companies, whether you’re a big or a small company, you can also transform yourself,” said Casper. In order to build a stronger startup community in Thailand, Casper serves as the Executive Vice President of Strategy & Global Ecosystem at Thai Startup, as a Board Member for Digital Technology Policy at the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, and as a Board Member for Innovation & Research at the Thai Chamber of Commerce.“Some people keep dreaming and remain in that dream, but you must be the kind of person who dreams and accomplishes your dreams.” Casper Sermsuksan, Sasin EMBA 2023
“It is an inspirational book that says if you want to start your dream, even if you are working within the government and you want to change the country, you can use some of this mindset,” said Casper. Casper’s commitment to fostering collaboration in the Thai startup ecosystem led him to initiate the Thai Startup & Innovation Future Forum 2023. This platform brought over 130 organizations to collectively shape a roadmap for Thailand’s startup future, emphasizing the importance of unity and collaboration. Despite his achievements, Casper admitted that he is not yet satisfied with himself and continues to find new projects to look forward to. “There is so much more for me to learn,” Casper said, “I think if I were satisfied with what I have done, I think the next 30 years would be very boring.” Casper began his education at the University of Southern California in 2013, initially pursuing a degree in Linguistics and East Asian Languages and Culture, then dropping out to study Business Administration (Finance) at the USC Marshall School of Business before transitioning to focus on Strategy & Entrepreneurship, graduating with magna cum laude. While he dropped out of his degree in EALC due to the course being too theoretical, he continued studying Vietnamese and Spanish, speaking both Chinese and Bahasa Indonesia fluently. In search of a partner, Casper found Sasin School of Management, which shares his values of enriching Thai culture, a commitment to sustainability through an entrepreneurial mindset, and the determination to emerge as a global leader in the Asia-Pacific region. “When I discovered Sasin, it was like reading a friend’s profile. Sasin is a Thai business school that promotes an entrepreneurial mindset and is committed to being the leader in the Asia- Pacific region. So those are the things that I want to accomplish in life. And I think Sasin is where I come to find a friend and hopefully a life partner in this journey,” said Casper. As a class president, Casper is eager to unlock the potential of his classmates and expand the Sasin community in Thailand as he continues his journey and pursues his passions.
