On April 4, 2023, Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), in collaboration with Impact46 and Neurodiversity at Work Research Centre at Sasin (NWRC), organized a hybrid event to raise awareness, disseminate best practices, and cultivate partnerships among key stakeholders in the sector of persons with disabilities in the ASEAN region.
The workshop had diverse attendees, including social workers, students, academics, government officials, representatives from corporations and NGOs, social enterprises, embassies, and multilateral and bilateral agencies. The event highlighted our commitment to accelerating diversity, equity, and inclusion journeys for individuals with disabilities.
The key takeaways from the three ERIA publications on disability and social inclusion are creating inclusive workplaces and enterprises that promote inclusion. During the panel discussion, the focus was on the challenges encountered by students with disabilities in Thailand, how IKEA is working to include individuals with disabilities in its business models, and the importance of embracing a positive mindset to overcome barriers and shift attitudes toward people with diverse abilities. The event also cited ERIA’s publications on inclusive education, social enterprises and disability, and technology and disability.
Special thanks to Dr. Drew B. Mallory, Sasin Inclusion Ambassador; Giulia Ajmone Marsan, Director of Strategy and Partnership, ERIA; and Mariam Diakite, First Secretary, Australian Mission to ASEAN; for welcoming the participants and emphasizing all of the involved organization’s commitment to disability inclusion.
We also would like to express our appreciation to the panelists: Nicola Crosta, Founder and CEO, Impact46; Max Simpson, Founder and CEO, Steps; Samart Ratanasakorn, Former Senior Academic Officer at Ministry of Education of Thailand; Lars Svensson, Chief Executive, Sasin Sustainability & Entrepreneurship Center; and Dr. Darren Chua, Inspirational Speaker and Empowerment Coach, Mindset Transformation Clinic; for sharing their invaluable knowledge and expertise.
