Professor Ian Fenwick has been re-appointed as Director of the Sasin School of Management for a second four-year term. While he has plans and visions for the leading business school in Thailand, he encourages everyone at Sasin to unlock their potential and actively contribute to the school’s transformation. During an interview discussing his appointment, he emphasized the importance of taking personal responsibility for what happens at Sasin.
“Each of us needs to take responsibility for our own future, and for the future of us all,” he said in an interview about his appointment, “What happens to Sasin, how Sasin develops, how Sasin improves its reputation and its programs, depends crucially on everyone — staff, faculty, students, alumni, and all stakeholders of Sasin.”
Before joining Sasin, Professor Fenwick was Director of Canada’s top-ranked MBA Program at the Schulich School of Business in Toronto, Canada. Professor Fenwick came to Thailand in 1988 to work with various Thai universities to develop new entrepreneurship courses. In 1992, he began teaching marketing strategy as a visiting professor at Sasin and became a full-time faculty member in 2001, teaching core marketing management courses and marketing strategy courses. He has also held several administrative roles at Sasin, including serving as Sasin Deputy Director from 2017-2019. His first term as Director of Sasin was from 2019-2023.
In 2008, Professor Fenwick co-authored Digimarketing: The Essential Guide to New Media & Digital Marketing with Kent Wertime, co-CEO of Ogilvy Asia. The book was a pioneering work about the transformation that marketing was undergoing and made Professor Fenwick a much sought-after visiting professor at business schools worldwide. Professor Fenwick has a broad range of teaching experience, having taught at universities and businesses in Canada, China, England, Germany, Hong Kong, Korea, Malaysia, Poland, Thailand, and the USA.
Professor Fenwick received a BA in Economics and Sociology from Durham University. He earned his Ph.D. at the University of London.
