On February 21, 2025, Associate Professor Piyachart Phiromswad, Sasin Deputy Director of Learning Solutions, participated in the signing ceremony of an Academic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at Mahidol University. This partnership aims to promote health and well-being within Thailand’s healthcare system and daily life. Sasin joined 49 other organizations in this initiative, all dedicated to advancing long-term health and sustainability in the country.
The event featured a panel discussion on “Aging Population and Declining Population: From Projections to Prevention,” highlighting Thailand’s demographic challenges, including a rapidly aging population, a shrinking workforce, and the economic implications of these shifts.
In his keynote address, “The Future of Thailand: Demographic and Economic Earthquakes,” Associate Professor Piyachart outlined key concerns such as labor shortages, rising business costs, declining tax revenues, and increasing strain on public services. However, he emphasized the potential for transformation through the “Third Demographic Dividend.”
He advocated for strategies such as promoting senior employment, elderly entrepreneurship, and greater community involvement. Additionally, he underscored the critical role of technology and behavioral science—including AI, remote work, and assistive technologies—in enhancing workforce productivity. Encouraging higher birth rates, financial planning, and health awareness were also identified as essential components of a sustainable future. “Demographic shifts are inevitable, but by redesigning policies and restructuring the economy, we can create a society that fosters health, longevity, and economic resilience,” he stated.
A key takeaway from the event was the recognition of the elderly not as a burden but as an economic asset. With the right resources and support, seniors can play a vital role in driving Thailand’s economy and social progress.
Sasin School of Management appreciates the efforts of the Thai Lifestyle Medicine and Health Association, Mahidol University, and all partner organizations for facilitating this important discussion. It was an honor for Sasin to contribute to shaping a healthier and more sustainable future for Thailand.
