Thailand’s Consulate General in HCMC and Chulalongkorn University yesterday announced the “Sasin-Royal Thai Government Scholarship” program for university graduates to do a Master’s degree in business administration (MBA) at the university’s Sasin Graduate Institute of Business Administration in 2016.

The program will grant scholarships to eight students in four ASEAN countries — Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar, with two scholarships for each country, Professor Suthi Ekahitanonda, senior advisor of Sasin institute, said at a news briefing on the scholarship program on Wednesday.

But if more excellent students are found to meet the scholarship requirements, the limit can be raised to three or four scholarships for each country, said Rattima Mukda-anan, director of the scholarship project.

Worth a total of US$64,000, the scholarship covers tuition fees and other expenses for 19 months of MBA studies.

Yet scholarship recipients are not allowed to apply for any international student exchange programs.

Thai Consul General Panpimon Suwannapongse said that in nearly 40 years of diplomatic relations, Vietnam and Thailand have focused more on the economic aspect but less on human resource development and educational cooperation.

Educational cooperation between Vietnam and Thailand started in 1992 through offering Thai language learning courses at Vietnam’s universities and the Sasin-Royal Thai Government Scholarship is offered to strengthen this cooperation.

Now in its second year, the scholarship program is supported by the Sasin institute and Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) under Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she said.

Last year, four students from Myanmar and Cambodia were chosen for the MBA scholarship and no Vietnamese student was selected.

Admission requirements for the scholarship include a bachelor degree in any field, a minimum of one-year full-time work experience, a TOEFL or IELTS score within two years of interview date, valid GMAT or GRE scores within five years of interview date.

Those interested can apply at the Thai Embassy in their country before January 15 and visit www.sasin.edu for more information.
