On August 31, 2023, the Sasin Japan Center (SJC) and Thai-Japanese Investment Research Institute (TJRI) hosted a seminar titled “Vision of Family Business: Embracing Change with Next-Generation Leaders.” This event was organized in collaboration with Mediator Co., Ltd. and Meiji Professional Graduate Schools.
The seminar kicked off with opening remarks by Professor Koji Yoshimura, the Dean of Meiji Professional Graduate Schools. Following that, Professor Takamasa Fujioka, Director of Sasin Japan Center & Professor at Meiji Business School and Sasin School of Management, delivered a keynote speech that emphasized the pivotal role of family businesses in Asian economies while addressing the significant challenges they encounter.
In the latter part of the seminar, three distinguished guest speakers representing Thai-listed family businesses (Jakkraphong Sumethchotimetha, Managing Director of Sakol Energy; Pat Ekpanyaskun, CEO of Nutrition SC; and Peerawat Jentrakulroj, General Manager of Srifa Frozen Food) participated in a panel discussion alongside Professor Fujioka and Kantatorn Wannawasu, CEO of Mediator. They shared insights into their company histories and the strategies they have employed to expand their family businesses.
Throughout the panel discussion, the audience gained valuable insights into the myriad challenges faced by the new generation of Thai family businesses, particularly in their collaborations with Japanese companies. The seminar attracted over 150 business professionals, including both Thai and Japanese participants. Notably, executives from prominent Japanese corporations such as Mitsubishi, Mitsui, Toyota Tsusho, Marubeni, and Sony actively participated in networking sessions with the Thai family businesses.
